Can I change the components of a theme?

Yes, you can. Here is all you need to do:
Go to 'Design' on the sidebar.
Click on 'Themes'.
Click on “Build your own theme”.
There will be two sections from which you can select the layout options:
1. Standard
   > Navigation bar 
   > Categories 
   > Search Bar 
   > Footer 
   > Subscriber form 
2. Homepage
   > Blog card layout in both featured and recent blogs sections
   > Banner image for homepage 
Clicking on “Save theme” will save your theme
